Kerr County: What’s Happening Now?

Kerr County and our neighboring communities are facing the long, difficult road to recovery after the heartbreaking flash floods that swept through over the Fourth of July weekend. In these challenging days, President Trump has issued a Major Disaster Declaration, opening the door for FEMA to step in and help families and local governments rebuild and heal (Dallas Morning News). Support includes grants for temporary housing and home repairs, plus much-needed assistance for those facing losses without insurance.

Governor Greg Abbott responded with a state disaster declaration, immediately sending over 2,000 emergency personnel into the area, visiting with those affected, and calling a special legislative session for July 23 to address gaps in emergency alerts and to secure additional funding for lasting recovery (Reuters.com).

Even though the National Weather Service acted early by issuing a flash flood warning, many neighbors didn’t get the emergency alerts in time. Reports indicate that although the CodeRED alert was requested shortly after 4 a.m., a 90-minute delay meant that too many families were caught off guard and unprepared. This has led to investigations at both county and state levels, along with renewed efforts to invest in better siren systems and warning technology—an urgent need that’s been discussed before but put on hold due to concerns over cost and public opposition.

As local and federal teams continue to assess the damage, recovery efforts are in full swing. Lawmakers and emergency response leaders are promising their ongoing commitment—not just immediate help, but support for long-term rebuilding, better infrastructure, and more effective flood protections in the future. At Marshall Adjusting Group, we stand with you. We’re here to help you navigate your insurance claims, advocate for fair treatment, and help you rebuild with confidence. Our hearts go out to every family touched by this disaster.
